Red Pierrot

The Red Pierrot small butterfly just measuring 30mm from tip to tip. But it gets no bigger than 36mm.

Despite its small size this is an amazingly attractive butterfly. It is one of the most brilliantly coloured. The entire upper sides of its wings having reddish-orange dots on a black background . The underside of its wings have a pied sort of a pattern with a little reddish-orange at the base.

This Red Pierrot is a weak flier not flying too far away from the ground. It settles on flowers often but not for very long. At this short time the Red Pierrot can be easily approachable and can be photographed easily.
